I am Jordan P. Vappie, ShapeSherpa. This story started in New Orleans, Louisiana, a place known for its food, and not because it’s healthy. Now being from New Orleans, I like to party, drink and lassie les bon ton roule! Yet like all good things, that type of behavior must be balanced. Consequently, I have been on the path to wellness for seventeen years in a variety of different fields, yet all leading to one point. My journey began as a home health prep nurse and licensed phlebotomist. As an in-home agent, I saw the devastating and long-lasting effects of failing to appreciate your body. As one of my many duties, I rendered range of motion exercises to bedridden patients as part of their rehabilitation. Whether it was genetic predisposition or self-induced, the lack of a guide, daily exercise, and proper diet definitely caught my attention. During this time I realized that my health, like that of my patients, could be affected by my weight. Small changes in my diet and consistent exercise, led to a nearly fifty pound weight lost. This weight loss sparked a fork in the road for me. I took the road which led to the path of me becoming the ShapeSherpa.
After becoming a Certified Personal Trainer and Sports Nutritionist in 1997, I transitioned to health prevention by educating communities on healthy lifestyles as a Health Promoter with WellCheck in Louisiana. While traveling the country with WellCheck, I represented companies such as Pfizer, Cholestech and the American Heart Association by conducting cholesterol, body mass index, diabetes, blood pressure and osteoporosis screenings at major conventions and events, including NASCAR and PGA Golf Tournaments. During these events around the country I saw Americans whose medical statistics were alarming. I felt compelled to share information that could extend lives on an individual basis. A permanent move to Los Angeles allowed me to focus on personal fitness training full time. I believe you can turn just about any environment into your fitness oasis. So in 2005, in conjunction with TV One and Organic Productions, I shared quick tips on simple exercises that could be done around the house or at the office using common household and office items. These fitness interstitials aired on TV One and Walmart TV. Although my clientele has included celebrities, TV personalities, business professionals, corporationsteenagers, families, moms and moms to be, it is my goal to reach as many people as I can, and invite them to join me on this movement for a healthier human landscape. I hope to do this by expanding my mark on the fitness industry through the design and development of fresh ideas and fitness products. I am certified by International Fitness Professionals Association (IFPA), and in Reebok Core Board, Reebok Spinning and BOSA.
