Introduction
The Bougie Black Therapist Podcast showcases psychotherapists that have their own unique vibe and authenticity so people who are considering entering the profession can see that they can be themselves and do what works best for them while attracting the kinds of clients they enjoy working with. In the United States, Black psychotherapists and clinicians make up only 5% of the profession. More people of color are investing in their mental health, which creates a need for more therapists they can relate to. Although there is no rule requiring that therapists and clients have identical cultural backgrounds, relatability can play a significant role in helping clients feel understood.

In this Bougie Conversation, Kelli Harris, Adolescent Therapist talks about growing up in Memphis, TN during a time when there was no trauma programming for Black children. She started the first trauma unit at Lakeside Behavioral Health System in Memphis, which became the 2nd largest in the nation.
