Health Community Honors, Shannon Jones, MPA, Central Health Board Member on Completion of His Term
The Black Men’s Health Clinic® (BMHC) Board of Directors and Staff pause to give homage to a highly respected community health leader, Shannon Jones, M.P.A., who will conclude his service on the Central Health Board of Managers in December.
On Wednesday, December 7th, the Black Men’s Health Clinic, community leaders, organizations, and elected officials gathered to recognize this man, who dedicated his life to ensuring healthcare was accessible to all. His service with Central Health spanned eight years, but his tenure and public health impact go well beyond his time on the Board. He is a health legend whose life is marked by advocacy, community engagement, and expanded access to care in underserved areas of Travis County.
Appointed in 2017 to the Board and reappointed in 2021, Jones brought decades of public health experience to Central Health, including prior service at Austin Public Health, where he helped lead this City of Austin department to national public health accreditation as the first Black health director in Austin/Travis County, Texas!
During his time on the Central Health Board, Jones has been a strong advocate for the Black Men’s Health Clinic, communities of color, and a long list of other organizations, taking a pioneering role in health promotion, health equity, and the advancement of inclusive, culturally responsive healthcare for all communities.
Black Men’s Health Clinic Founder and CEO Larry Wallace Sr., D.H.A., stated, “Hats off,” with a standing ovation, to you, Shannon, for your leadership and commitment to accessible and inclusive healthcare in Austin/Travis County. We also honor you for your significant contributions in support of the Black Men’s Health Clinic in promoting equitable and culturally affirming care for the men of color we serve and everyone in the entire community.
