Pastor ∙ Leader ∙ Board Member Challenges Insured & Uninsured Men to Schedule Doctors Appointments
Austin-area pastor, leader, and BMHC Board member, Reverend N. Jordan Mkwanasi, has challenged men, and particularly men of color, to a showdown on seeing a doctor at least every six months to at least get blood work done. (About Reverend N. Jordan Mkwanazi)
In his “Thursdays with Pastor Jordan” social media video series, he alluded to the appalling health statistics centered around chronic disease for men of color, where he highlighted the overwhelming causes of death among black men as heart disease, cancer, unintentional injuries, homicides, stroke, diabetes, chronic lower respiratory diseases, and kidney failure.
It is herein that he issued a challenge to men to find a doctor and find the care that is needed. He went on to highlight one of the top excuses that men make through a third-person conversation (he talked to himself like someone else was talking to him).
He said, “Well, Pastor, I don’t have insurance.” Then he answered himself by saying, “Listen, I have just the solution for you. If you live in the Austin metroplex, listen to me very carefully.
If you live in the Austin [area] metroplex [in Texas], there is an outstanding clinic called the Black Men’s Health Clinic®.
If you live in Austin, if you live in Pflugerville, if you live in Hutto, if you live in Georgetown, if you live in Round Rock, or if you live in Cedar Park, this is the place to go whether you have insurance or not. This is the place to go.”

Then, Pastor Jordan began reading information from the blackmenshealthclinic.org website:
It says here, “Never sweat the details of your health care again. BMHC—Black Man Health Clinic exists to lower barriers to successful health care by taking on some of the burden, such as scheduling financing and coordination between the providers.”
Pastor Jordan concluded, “All you have to do is go there and tell them what you need, and they will work out the details for you. There is no excuse, brothers; there is no excuse, men of color.
And may I say that the Black Men’s Health Clinic is not just exclusive to men of color? Any man can go; don’t make that excuse; go and see a doctor today; go and get the examination you need so you can stay healthy and strong and live a long life, as the Bible promises us.
That’s my challenge for every man of color in particular, and every man in general, to go to the Black Men’s Health Clinic in Austin, Texas, and get the health care you need today.
Don’t wait another day, don’t wait another week, and don’t wait another month. Do it today. Call them today… Remember, your health is of the uttermost [importance].”
