What if your nutrition advice felt like care, rather than a critique?
What if your nutrition advice felt like care, rather than a critique? I remember the first time I worked with a clinician who valued critique more than care.
Not only did it make me ignore her advice, but it pushed me to find another clinician who I believed truly cared about my health.
I know it’s much easier to blame the patient, but I’d like more clinicians to point the mirror more often back at themselves.
✔️ We’re not being noncompliant because we don’t care about our health.
✔️ We often resist your advice because it doesn’t reflect our unique situation.
However, finding the right clinician made the difference.
✅ I learned that clinicians can lead with respect and still provide guidance.
✅ I also learned that clinicians can value culture and identity in their recommendations.
The future of health isn’t just science; it’s care plans that include culture and identity.
What’s stopping you from giving advice that actually builds trust?
